In my humble opinion, as student of Defense &
Strategic studies and without mentioning any single event, in my holistic
analysis the Rawalpindi's approach occasionally flames the small fire; I am
using ‘Rawalpindi's approach’ as a metaphor of applying militaristic solution
to every political problem. It can be happen due to influence of Rawalpindi
over strategic policy makeup or it is the lack of ‘political will’ that
provides space for military maneuverability to any of problem with political
nature. It can not just happen by placing civilian rule over security matters
but the role of department of Defense & Strategic Studies and International
Relations is important to come up with serious thought provoking solutions and
analysis, including serious seminars with collaboration of security
institutions in order to achieve broader consensus. Here we must admit that the
research output of these institutions is also nil. As a student of Defense
& Strategic Studies from one of the prestigious university of Pakistan I am
totally blank about the formation of strategic policies both at institutional
and at national level. What are the ingredients of policy goals both at
strategic and tactical level and its relation to broader political canvas? The
state is confronting with non traditional security challenges and there is
reason behind it, and the holistic policy would be the policy of not flaming
political resentments.
